TCRSF
RULE CHANGES:
1.
TCRSF has changed to allow either individual
OR team papers. All papers must comply with ISEF and JSHS rules
& guidelines.
2.
TCRSF will now accept research papers from grade 6 students. For
2012, the state is doing a pilot (test) program to permit grade
6 students chosen at the regional fairs to advance to state with
their research papers, projects, or both. The results at the
regional fairs determine who is eligible to advance.
3.
TCRSF papers will be read on line by judges and students will
receive comments via email from the judges.
Although
TCRSF will judge papers based on the reading of the papers, for
those who advance to the next level of competition, a power point oral
presentation will be required at the state (grade 6-8) or tri-state JSHS
(grades 9-12) levels so TCRSF recommends that you PRACTICE your presentation
at your school and several more times to others who will listen
and ask questions.)
YES,
your exhibit project and your research paper may be on the exact
same work. It is expected (but not mandatory) that you have a
copy of your research paper at your exhibit during the science
fair anyway!
================================
The
paper should be a minimum of 5-6 pages and a maximum of 20
pages, including appendices.
Photography
may be used in the electronic research paper; photography
may be used in the oral presentations
Graphs,
tables, diagrams, charts, or other graphic representation should
be simple to allow the judges on-line access to the research
paper.
The
maximum size limit for the electronic research paper is 1.8 Mb.
The
judges read both the abstract and the research paper.
National
rules limit the abstract to 200 words, but at TCRSF, we will
allow the abstract to be up to 250 words to be consistent with
the ISEF rules for project competition. Therefore, if the
student is competing in both the research paper and the project
competitions, they are permitted to use the same abstract for
both - until/ if they compete at Nationals. Abstracts for
nationals MUST be limited to 200 words.
For
students in grades 9-12, they may enter their research paper
into EITHER the TCRSF OR the North Central Regional JSHS Open
Competition, but not both. Papers submitted to both competitions will be disqualified. The
Open Competition registration and research paper submission
deadline is January 15, 2012, and the Open Competition will
accept only the first 50 papers submitted. TCRSF will
accept research papers from those students who are attending
school within our four county region. The deadline to
submit papers and registrations through the regional fair
(TCRSF) is February 3, 2012.
