TCRSF
RULE CHANGES:
1.
TCRSF has changed to allow either individual
OR team papers. All papers must comply with ISEF and JSHS rules
& guidelines.
2.
TCRSF will now accept research papers from grade 6 students,
HOWEVER, grade 6 is not eligible to advance to state (same as
for projects). Grade 6 is eligible for Twin Cities awards.
3.
TCRSF papers will be read on line by judges for the first round
of competition.
CHECK
BACK FOR CHANGES TO RESEARCH PAPER COMPETITION IN AUGUST 2010.
(Likely we will have all judging based on the reading of the
research papers rather than the oral competition. Although it is
a worthwhile experience, the judging of the orals in 2010 did
not change the results compared to the written paper
pre-judging. In either case, a power point oral
presentation will be required at the state or tri-state JSHS
levels so TCRSF recommends that you PRACTICE your presentation
at your school and several more times to others who will listen
and ask questions.) 2011 deadlines will be established in August
2010.
For
2010 deadlines were:
(online deadline for research paper submission:
Jan. 15, 2010, by 5:00 p.m. CST, actual time, not your computer
clock stamp) Students will be notified if they have qualified for the TCRSF final paper
competition by email on January 29, 2010.
Final round of paper
competition (student presentation) is at the UofM on Friday, February 12, between
12:00-6:00 p.m. and WILL
NOT conflict with their project judging! See more details on the
Research Paper page.
4.
TCRSF research papers size constraints are now changed to match
the national JSHS rules/guidelines:
http://www.jshs.org/guidelines.html
The
paper should be a minimum of 5-6 pages and a maximum of 20
pages, including appendices.
CHANGE:
Due to a successful appeal, research papers entered in TCRSF may
now include pictures/photos in them as long as the total size of
the research paper is no more than 1.8 MB in size.
Photography
may be used in the electronic research paper; photography
may be used in the oral presentations
Graphs,
tables, diagrams, charts, or other graphic representation should
be simple to allow the judges on-line access to the research
paper.
The
maximum size limit for the electronic research paper is 1.8 Mb.
The
judges read both the abstract and the research paper.
National
rules limit the abstract to 200 words, but at TCRSF, we will
allow the abstract to be up to 250 words to be consistent with
the ISEF rules for project competition. Therefore, if the
student is competing in both the research paper and the project
competitions, they are permitted to use the same abstract for
both - until/ if they compete at Nationals. Abstracts for
nationals MUST be limited to 200 words.
For
students in grades 9-12, they may enter their research paper
into EITHER the TCRSF OR the North Central Regional JSHS Open
Competition, but not both. Papers submitted to both competitions will be disqualified. ***CHECK
BACK later to see if Minnesota Academy of Science will run an
Open Competition or not for 2011. There is talk that all papers
may have to enter through their regional fairs with the
exception of entries from ND or SD.
