We need judges and volunteers for:

  • reading and scoring/judging research papers available electronically in mid-January (from the comfort of your own computer)

  • judging the finals of the research paper competition in symposium format based on the student's PowerPoint presentation of their work, including a time for judge questions (at the University of Minnesota near the Field House on Friday, February 12, 2010)

  • judging the science fair projects in the University of Minnesota Field House, Minneapolis campus from 4:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

  • volunteers are needed for many jobs any time between 7:00 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 to very late p.m. and more volunteers are needed for many jobs from 8:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010 until clean up is finished... about 3:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed for:

    • Data Entry: need 3-4 people to enter scores into data base

    • Protocol team: need 6 people -- 2 teams of 3 to review projects before judging—specifics will be given. Protocol makes sure that projects have no chemicals, food, or dangerous things at their display; and checks to be sure projects are not too large and have proper paperwork on display.

    • Find and Seekers: need 6-9 people to direct presenters and judges to correct area

    • Envelope stuffers: need 4- 5 people (Late evening, after judging) paperwork and ribbons into envelopes

    • Calligraphers: need 2-3 people to enter names onto certificates

    • Food Handlers: 2-3 keep the teenagers out of the judge’s food and make sure food is replenished

    • Registration: 6th, 7th, 8th 9-12th   (2-3 people needed per section)  to instruct presenters how to find their project space, what to do if they have an SRC violation, and make sure they wear their buttons.

    • Judge Registration: Need about 4 volunteers to help judges check in & get their name badges and judging materials.

    • SRC:-must be experienced with SRC (Scientific Review Committee) issues and current ISEF rules

    • Receiving: 2 people to direct presenters/judges coming in to correct area i.e., registration for students and judges /keep students out of judges area/ students to use port-a-potties.

    • Set-up Friday morning -- ROTC, electrical crew, Nokomis -- all tables, chairs, floor protectors must be set up, but can use 3 - 4 volunteers to cover the tables with paper, measure the proper width for each student booth, and place the project numbers at the correct places

    • Number checkers: score runners during judging

    • Security: no parents or teachers are allowed on the floor during judging.  Judges and Presenters must have on soft soled shoes. No heels allowed on the athletic floor.

    • Judges: if you have a science or engineering work experience (and/or degree), let us know if you’d like to be a judge.
